| Project: | Hamro LifeBank has three major components, Technology, Communication Hub, and Logistics. While all three components are inter-linked for the overall success of our non-profit, we have divided them into three funding/sustainable models so they can grow independently.
We have started doing some ground work on technology and have piloted our proof of concepts in a few blood banks in Kathmandu and Bharatpur. We are actively pursuing funds as well as building a sustainable model for this. Logistics (blood delivery) will come in more actively once we get the technology and the communication hub components to a more mature stage. We are seeking funding from ANMF particularly for our Communication Hub component. This component is a focal data-driven system to disseminate information on blood availability and guide folks who are searching for blood. Apart from the logistics involved in setting up a 24×7 hotline and a messenger/chatbot service, we will develop a Blood Information Dispatch System (BIDS). BIDS is a dynamic blood product/donor search system integrated with our centralized inventory and donor management system. BIDS will include real time data on available blood products across blood banks. It will connect with our donor management system for donor search by eligibility and geographic location. BIDS will heavily rely on donor privacy and consent protocol and will integrate a feedback mechanism into our complete system to keep up-to-date data of donors and patients who need blood. BIDS will continue to grow with donor data digitization and blood bank digitization and incorporate blood request management and detailed reporting analytics. |

| Organization: | Hamro LifeBank is a non-profit organization for a smart, transparent and holistic blood management service from collection to supply. Hamro LifeBank was started as an answer to the growing pains of a patient's family to arrange blood in times of need. As we delved deeper into the current blood shortage challenge, the concept birthed into a much needed data-informed approach, wherein the lifecycle of a blood bag can be managed efficiently and transparently with higher process control. |

| 4 Aug 19 | Life Bank Foundation writes in answer to the question: “We are made aware that any organization/project related to blood donation has to obtain permit through Blood Bureau Nepal. Have you obtained such permit(s) or applied to one?”
Permits and approval processes are required to run blood banks. Since we don't own a blood bank and are only modernizing the processes of existing blood banks (who already have permits), we don't need a physical permit letter from the bureau or the ministry. However, both the bureau and the ministry are aware and familiar with our work. We presented our concept and our work to NBBTS in November, 2018. The Director then, Dr. Harish Upreti was very positive and shared supportive remarks on collaboration. There has recently been a change in staff and a new director, Dr. Runa Jha was appointed. We plan to present to her as well.
Also, we presented our concept to the health minister, Dr. Upendra Yadav recently in June, 2019. With his recommendation, we are working with Jagdish Rauniyar (IT head of the ministry) to see how we can link their overall digital health strategy with our initiative. We also formally presented to the Chairman and Executive Director of NRCS in July and have started engaging their teams. |
