| Project: | The project will fulfill the regular and emergency medical needs of children, girls and women residing in Maiti Nepal's shelter homes, Kathmandu. The fund requested to serve this previously very unfortunate, disadvantaged and derived population is 14640 USD This will be one time request of funds which could not be raised from other streams due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Goal: To ensure health and general well-being of children and women at Maiti Nepal. This goal will be achieved by fulfilling the general and emergency medical needs of the beneficiaries at Maiti Nepal's shelter home Kathmandu. Survivors of trafficking, exploitation and domestic violence often arrive at Maiti Nepal in a very feeble, fragile and serious mental and physical conditions. Many of them need specialized medical care including surgical services. This project will facilitate smooth delivery of services in this regard. The challenges that could be faced is the funding inadequacy. Rescue and repatriation of trafficking victims is Maiti Nepal's regular activities. Sometimes the number of victims rescued is so high in number that the available budget may still be insufficient to cover their health and medical needs. To overcome this challenges, Maiti Nepal has to approach other donor agencies and raise funds so that the right to health of the beneficiaries is not compromised. The success and failure of the goal is evaluated on the basis of success of reintegration. If the survivors of violence are ultimately reintegrated in the society without chances of victimization, if they are able to start their new beginning, if they are psychologically and physically strong to fight against stigma & discrimination and act as activists against all sorts of violence, then we can say that the success has been achieved. Every year more than 12,000 persons are trafficked from Nepal and about 150,000 are at risk of being trafficked (ILO). The ongoing COVID pandemic has further exacerbated the risks and put many women and children from poor, marginalized and deprived communities into physical, emotional, and mental hazards. Maiti Nepal's Primary Health Care Center located in Kathmandu office Premises has been providing health services to hundreds of children and women who have survived violence and exploitation. They belong to poor and underprivileged backgrounds. Hundreds of children and women who arrive and live in Maiti's shelter homes benefit from the health services being delivered by the PHC (Primary Health care Center) and Hospice. These children and women have various sorts of medical needs which in such a stressful times of COVID pandemic can't be met from the regular funding streams.Raising funds is even more difficult during these times. The proposed cooperation with ANMF will ensure physical, emotional, psychological and mental well being of children and women and maximize ways for their successful reintegration in the society, thereby enabling them to live a healthy and independent life. |

| Organization: | Mission: Maiti Nepal envisions to create a society free from Trafficking of children and women.
Maiti Nepal was established in 1993 AD to eliminate human trafficking and all forms of violence against women and girls. Till date, Maiti Nepal has rescued 49000 girls and women from risks of trafficking and rehabilitated them successfully. Maiti Nepal has 14 branch fices all over Nepal. In its central office premises, Kathmandu, Maiti Nepal runs a Prevention Home, Rehabilitation Home, school and a Primary Health care center with 38 beds. Maiti Nepal also operates a Hospice at Gokarna, Kathmandu where children and women with long term infirmities are staying and receiving comprehensive support.Children, girls and women who become sick and are in need of any other medical interventions- whether simple or complicated are taken care by the Primary Health Care center which provides direct or referral services depending upon the nature of cases. Maiti Nepal's shelter homes receive children and women from diverse backgrounds and precarious circumstances. On many occasions, their medical needs and expenses are beyond the regular capacity of the organization. This capacity has been further compromised due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We have not been able to raise funds for meeting all the emergency and regular medical needs of the beneficiaries in the shelter, at Kathmandu. The beneficiaries of this project are the children, girls and women who have survived violence and exploitation. They belong to poor, vulnerable, marginalized, deprived and disadvantaged communities of various trafficking prone districts of Nepal. Usually the girls and women of low socio-economic profile, poor and dysfunctional families, school drop outs are the ones who are trafficked and exploited. Maiti Nepal's shelter homes provides residential services to such beneficiaries who are ultimately benefited by this project as well. |
