Dr. Pramesh and Dr. Rahul who received the training/observership from qualified professionals on the advanced and reputed medical institutions at US are now on the Liver transplant committee at Teaching Hospital. The committee is making its way for the first successful liver transplant in Nepal. Though it would take more time (to buy necessary equipments, setup a medical team, designating/constructing a separate space to be initiated, etc) but the teaching hospital along with the liver transplant committee are working very hard to get the service started as soon as possible. |

Dr. Ramesh Bhandari in Nepal reports “From the feedback I have received from the candidates, I really do believe that both had a very meaningful training period. Currently we are purchasing all our required instruments for surgery anaesthesia and critical care. We are expecting them to be installed by late January. The 4 bedded liver transplant dedicated ICU construction process has also been started and by February we are expecting it to be completed. We are targeting to start LTX by mid of March 2018.” |

IOM has an established renal transplant program at present and is planning to add liver to serve the local citizens in the near future. Another IOM faculty is rotating at Emory University mainly learning ICU care to these liver patients pre- and post-transplant. |
