The PBL faculty training aims to build and strengthen the capacity of the faculty members at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences to facilitate students’ problem based learning. We wish to request a fund of US $ 3170 and the fund will be utilized to organizet the PBL tutor training workshop.

Goals

The proposed training aims to build and strengthen the capacity of PBL tutors to
1. – Comprehend the concept and process of problem-based learning
2. – Identify effective PBL topics, learning objectives and write PBL cases/triggers
3. – Facilitate PBL sessions and enhance student learning
4. – Assess learning of the students both as a group and individually
5. – Give feedback to the students efficiently and timely
6. – Assess the effectiveness of one’s own role as a PBL tutor
The major current challenge in conducting the training is deficiency of PBL experts at the local level and the high
cost of inviting experts from other universities.
The challenges might be overcome by utilizing internal physical and human resources and acquiring external funding.

Need

Despite the adoption of problem based learning as a part of the curriculum and the recognition of advantages of the problem based learning method, no formal training in this relatively new pedagogical approach has been conducted at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences so far. We believe that proper training can improve the quality of facilitation problem based learning and hence the student achievement.
